There is so much to learn about bicycles than just hopping on one to escape the manic city for the freedom of the countryside.
I, like most people, feel a desire to absorb bicycle knowledge.
I want to know the 'ins & outs' of the mechanisms of a bicycle too.
Cycling is a good form of exercise, its eco friendly, fun & free.....for now. The only commitment that you have with cycling is that you have to maintain your bike regularly so that it looks after you.

Spider webs so close together on a gate. I wonder if they all belong to the same spider? Stay Curious!

When cycling and recording on Strava you have to take into consideration variables like the weather, how you are feeling (healthwise), the state of the roads (pot holes, massive puddles) or country lanes (flints, mud & shingle).
Also when cycling round country lanes you also have to factor in walkers, horse riders, tractors, cars, deers & pheasants jumping through the hedges, as all of these will have an effect on your recordings.
But remember, safety comes first, it's no good being single minded about Strava segments if you encounter a potentional hazard, the sensible thing to do is to slow down & proceed with caution especially where horses are concerned, (wind in the bicycle spokes could spook a horse).

I cycle every day, whatever the weather, apart from if its icy or very windy, then its a no go & also time permitting.
Some days, I will record Strava & on the other days that I don't record, I like to stop along the way, take pictures & take in everything around me, the sights, smells & noises.
If you are heading out by bike or on foot, why not check out the latest weather forecast with the MetOffice:-
Time for a clean.
Degreaser & dry lube on chain.
WD40 on all moving parts.
Carrera TDF clean, degreased & chain reoiled. Now to fit 2 x 700x25C Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres & Presta Valve inner tubes. (Hopefully to cope with the razor sharp gravel that I may encounter).
Its the Orbeas turn now.

Many stories in this world "go under the radar". Here is one about a Cycling Fine:-
Roadcc.com - 26.03.2022
Teenager fined £220 for cycling without a front light & has been ordered to pay the full fine of £344 by the middle of April 2022.

Whilst it is very important that cyclists take full responsibility for their own safety & the safety of others, in making sure that they are seen out on the road & as stated in the road.cc report:-
"It is illegal to ride a bike without lights and reflectors between sunset and sunrise, under the Roads Vehicles Lighting Regulations Act 1989, which was last amended in 2009."
I think that the fine awarded was very harsh & in my opinion it should be appealed.
Maybe the 18 year old that was fined should've first received a warning & be made to prove that he has now installed a bicycle light & surely this would've been better than being issued with a hefty fine from the Government, who no doubt are just generating more revenue for themselves?!
Whilst I appreciate and respect the hard work of the Police Force maintaining Law & Order, I still think that their working time would be better spent & lives saved if they stepped up their patrolling of roads, motorways, dual carriageways, lanes etc. & fined drivers who are not fully concentrating on the road ahead & as we are all fully aware these people are a danger to cyclists, motorbikes, horse riders, pedestrians, walkers etc...
